In December 2015 a delegation led by Executive Deputy Mayor Sun Wei visited the Hurunui District for the official signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and the initial ideas and expectations were discussed about what each district desired to have in a meaningful sister district relationship.
In July 2016 Mayor Winton Dalley led a delegation from the Hurunui District to Changping District, Beijing and signed the formal Sister Disitrict relationship,
In that period of time we have:
- Developed our dedicated Sister District website to showcase the strength and integrity of our Sister District relationship.
- Created a plan that will allow our youth to connect with each other on a series of platforms, with implementation timed for mid 2017.
- Created a plan for a “garden of reflection” to celebrate our Sister District relationship.

View GalleryThe relationship between our two districts is not a sprint based on the here and now, or the immediate gains but a marathon built on the stepping stones of friendship, trust and a desire to offer the best opportunities for our future generations as we become more globalised and interconnected.
